ALBANY CREEK LEISURE CENTRE - EXPLORER DRIVE ALBANY CREEK
After this recent statement from BWPI
"To ensure a fair and competitive competition, BWPI welcomes “Development Teams”, and will endeavour accommodate requests that they can play a year up in an older age group. However, in principle BWPI will place these teams in a lower division (e.g. “B” instead of “A” Division) to prevent development teams being ‘non-competitive’ and thereby skewing the competition"
POLO BEARS are offering the opportunity for girls that play for their schools to have a second game on Saturdays in their next age division, just turn up to the trials listed. Quite a number of our Junior Girls have been playing both school and club in different age groups for years.

We wish you well Charlize Andrews, Sophie Milliken and Kasey Williams-Dalziel. These three girls have also been chosen in the team that will stay on in Auckland after the Pan Pacs for a test series against New Zealand. Way to Go Girls.

Polo Bears U16 State Titles Winners
Congratulations to our U16A team on taking out the gold medal at last weekend’s state titles. The girls were undefeated in all games and had a very tight final against All Hallows, but managed to power through and take the match with a final score of 6-5. Under the guidance of Coach Akos Janosi and management of Karilyn Milliken it really was a winning formula. Thanks to all those who came and supported us in the final, it was a thrilling game to watch. Winners are grinners and coaches get wet! Thanks also to our resident photographer Richard Smith who captured some great images for us.
Polo Bears Snow at U16 State Titles
Well done to our Polo Bears Snow team for their performance at the U16 State Titles last weekend. Coach Chloe Hogan and Manager Paul Hardy led their team of mostly U15’s through a weekend of tough competition with a whole lot of team spirit. It was a great experience all round for the players, most of whom I’m sure, will be back next year for another go at the title. Way to go girls!
How Much Water Polo can you Bear?
Here is an amazing opportunity for all Polo Bears to secure a spot in winter clinics run by Grow Water Polo. I have it on good authority that our own 16A coach Akos Janosi will be taking these sessions. What a great way to gear up for the 2016/17 season. Please contact Grow Water Polo for more information and bookings. http://www.growwaterpolo.com.au/clinics.html
U14 Boys Club Nationals
Welcome home and congratulations to all our boys competing in the Club Nationals. By all accounts the boys thoroughly enjoyed this experience. In the stunning setting of the new Gold Coast Aquatic Centre our boys played hard and formed some solid friendships. Thanks must go to Coach Paul Rusnac who put the boys through their paces and the Martin Family for Managing Duties.
14U Girls Club Nationals Wrap Up
Several of our U14 Polo Bears combined with Barracudas to form the Barrabears at this year’s Club Champs in Albury/Wodonga. According to the girls, supporters and coaches the team made the absolute most of this opportunity. Coaches Chloe Hogan and (triple Olympian) Mel Rippon were even spotted in the pool with players during training sessions. Another highlight was meeting and having a photo opportunity with current Olympians Bronwyn Knox (former Polo Bear) & Nicola Zagme. The Barrabears went down in 5-4 in the shield final against City Beach Bears from WA and by all accounts it was a tough match. Our team parents have all agreed it was a great experience for the girls who have learned so much and a wonderful time was had by all involved.
Could this be your child??
Are you water polo's next poster kid?
Brisbane Water Polo Association and Water Polo Queensland are searching for boys and girls to be a part of our next marketing campaign.

A Huge Well Done and Thank You to our Club Person of the year award recipients Paul & Kym Hardy. My first trophy EVER, according to an excited Kym! The Hardys have been heavily involved with the junior girls over the last few years. Boys coach Anthony Lyndon was awarded the Tim Down Memorial Trophy. Both the Hardys and Anthony have quietly contributed an amazing amount to our Polo Bears club and we have been very lucky to have them on board.

Think, Act, Play Coaches Award
The above award was presented to our very own coach Tom Milliken on the final day of the 16&U Club Nationals.
There are three slogans that underpin the THINK, ACT, PLAY program aimed at promoting positive behaviour and respect. Each slogan is relevant to everyone involved in the game.
THINK before you speak
ACT with respect
PLAY in the spirit of the game
What an achievement for our very first team entered in this championship event. It was great to see that Tom not only displayed such admirable qualities but fostered this amongst his players at every opportunity. Tom and our girls showed great tenacity and exceptional team spirit that never faltered throughout the week. It’s fantastic to know that the Polo Bears will be long remembered after this and one thing is for certain - WE'LL BE BACK!
16&U Club National Girls Team
Welcome home to our girls on their return from Perth. The U16 Team played on until the last day of competition in the Bowl Final. The team played hard and made everyone around them so very proud. Not only was this a team to be reckoned with in the pool, but a team you would want to be with! Way to go Polo Bears. A big thank you must also go to Karilyn Milliken for her managment of the team. Her experience in this area enabled the seamless running of the tour and her quiet watchful eye and attention to detail was appreciated by all. (It was also evident in some rather accidental photo bombing)
16&Under Club Nationals
Best of luck to our girls who will be travelling to Perth to compete in the 16&U Club National Tournament next week.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
A big thank you must go out to all players, parents and coaches who attended our sign on days over the last two weeks. What a great success. Polo Bears will be fielding teams in all BWPI junior divisions and several senior divisions also. Training will commence for all teams during the week beginning 6 October, with some variations due to the Monday public holiday. Keep an eye on your inbox for emails from your team manager regarding relevant training and game times.
